The trick is a small discipline you repeat every time you catch a bulletin — no textbook, no teacher, just a pen and thirty seconds of speaking afterwards.

Two moves make the protocol. First, take notes-éclair while you listen: keywords only — a number, a name, a verb — never full sentences, because writing prose makes you miss the next line.
