Sound drill: the nasals /ɛ̃/ and /œ̃/ (in, un)

P45.pronunciation-drills.05 · Audience: guest, language-pro, it-ml · Prerequisites: Sound drill: the nasals /ɑ̃/ and /ɔ̃/ (an, on)

Unité PO-07 · campagne 5 · vin, brin, brun.

French keeps two more nasal vowels at the front of the mouth, and they are all that separates vin from brun. The vowel of vin is the unrounded /ɛ̃/; the vowel of un and brun is the rounded /œ̃/. The phrase Un bon vin blanc puts un /œ̃/ and vin /ɛ̃/ side by side, which makes it the perfect minimal drill: keep the n silent, as in the last lesson, and let the vowel do the work.

Say: Un bon vin blanc.
