B2 reading: implicit meaning & tone

The second face of B2 reading: what the text does without saying it. French press prose is dense with controlled irony (les salariés apprécieront), with meaning carried by images (ouvertes quand la ville travaille, fermées quand elle respire), and with formal politeness whose actual content is a flat refusal (nous vous invitons à vous rapprocher de votre assureur).
The reliable levers:
- Irony detection — praise that sits next to contradicting facts is not praise. Three unanswered letters turn « écoute attentive » into an accusation.
- Figurative reformulation — when a question asks what an image means, translate it into the dullest literal sentence you can; the right option is that sentence.
- Formal-register decoding — administrative French buries the verdict in the last subordinate clause. Find who ends up doing what.
Five texts, one inference question each. If an option requires information from outside the text, it is wrong — B2 never does.
