French has five everyday cause connectors, and a B2 essay is graded partly on whether you use them as five different tools rather than five synonyms. The distinctions are real, and Russian flattens most of them — потому что and так как do not carry the same contrasts.

The pair to internalise is parce que vs puisque, an information-structure contrast Russian does not mark. Parce que presents the cause as news: Je suis resté parce que j'étais fatigué — you didn't know that. Puisque presents it as given: Puisque tu connais déjà la réponse, pourquoi me poses-tu la question ? — we both already know you know. Test yourself: if the cause could answer a pourquoi ? question, it is parce que; if it leans on shared knowledge to push a conclusion, it is puisque.
Comme does the same backgrounding job but must stand first: Comme il pleuvait, nous sommes restés. Car is the essayist's connector — elegant in writing, slightly stiff in speech, and grammatically barred from opening a sentence. En raison de takes a noun, not a clause: en raison du mauvais temps, perfect for the formal-letter register you built in earlier units.
