Two instruments finish your formal-letter toolkit, and they pull in opposite directions on purpose.

The conditionnel de politesse softens the surface of a demand without weakening its content. « Je souhaiterais obtenir un échange plutôt qu'un avoir » asks for exactly as much as je veux un échange — but the mood signals that you know the social code. Je souhaiterais, j'aimerais, pourriez-vous, je vous demanderais de : same requests, exam-grade varnish.

The consequence line does the opposite job: it hardens the timeline. The consecrated pattern is « À défaut de réponse sous quinze jours, je me verrai contraint(e) de saisir l'association de consommateurs. » Notice the tense: futur simple, not conditional — the consequence is presented as certain if the deadline passes. And notice what it is not: no insult, no sinon je vous attaque ! You announce a procedure (saisir, engager un recours, faire valoir mes droits), never a threat.

Softness in the request, firmness in the deadline — that pairing is the entire register game of the B2 lettre formelle, and examiners reward copies that play both notes.
