Les connecteurs qui structurent : d'abord… en définitive

P47.b2-writing.06 · Audience: guest, language-pro, it-ml · Prerequisites: Le bloc argumentatif : affirmation, développement, exemple

Unité PE-04 · campagne 2 · le squelette visible de votre argumentation.

Connectors are how the examiner sees your plan without re-reading. The cohérence-cohésion line of the grid is, in practice, a connector audit — so give your text a visible spine.

The series backbone carries the arguments in order: d'abord opens the first, ensuite chains the next, enfin closes the list. To add an argument of a different kind — a cost question after two ecological points — switch to par ailleurs or the more formal de surcroît, which say "new angle", not just "one more".

The closing move is en définitive: it announces the final assessment, the place where you weigh what your own arguments have shown — « En définitive, il ressort que la gratuité des musées profite d'abord aux visiteurs déjà convaincus. » Stronger than finalement, and unmistakably terminal.

The classic B2 failure is the monotone chain: de plus… de plus… de plus… Every link says "addition", none says "progression", and the paragraph reads as a heap rather than a route. Variety is not decoration here; it is information.

The practice items hand you passages with a blank or a broken chain and ask which connector does the job — placement first, elegance second.
