Lecture authentique · société

P46.b2-reading.09 · Audience: guest, language-pro, it-ml · Prerequisites: L'ironie dans la prose de presse

Unité CE-26 · campagne 3 · la page société, sans filet pédagogique.

First unit of the authentic-text series: no exam scaffolding, just the société pages as the French press actually writes them — declining town centres, néo-ruraux, student food aid, cafés associatifs. The skills from CE-02 to CE-05 apply unchanged; what changes is the packaging.

Know the furniture of a société article:

  • Le chapeau — the bold summary paragraph under the headline. Read it first: it is the article's own answer to quelle est l'idée principale ?
  • La tribune — an opinion text signed by an outside figure. Same page, different contract: everything in it is stance, not report.
  • The trend piece and its correction. Société journalism loves a narrative (ils étaient cadres à Paris, ils sont maraîchers dans la Creuse) — and loves quoting the expert who deflates it (les démographes s'agacent…). The B2 question usually sits on the deflation, not the story.
  • The closing reservation. Authentic articles rarely end on certainty: reste à savoir si la clientèle, elle, reviendra. That final nuance is a favourite item target.

Read each excerpt below twice: once for the facts, once for who frames them and what the last sentence takes back.
