Dire le bon pronom, vite

P45.oral-automatisms.03 · Audience: guest, language-pro, it-ml

Unité PO-39 · campagne 26 · le pronom se choisit sur un nom qui a déjà disparu de la phrase.

This is the hardest of the three, because the information the pronoun needs is already gone. By the time you say je la prends, la voiture has left the sentence — the gender has to have been carried forward, not looked up.

Tu le prends for tu la prends, and tu veux for tu en veux, are both the same failure: the pronoun was chosen from the verb instead of from the noun that is no longer there.

What to listen for in your own answer

Gender travels with the noun, not the object. If you hesitate, the hesitation is the finding — you were looking the gender up.

En is the pronoun of quantity. Anything introduced by du, de la or des comes back as en, and nothing else will do.

Your own recording is the evidence. Play the model, play your version in your head, and find the syllable where they diverge. One syllable, most of the time.

Recording starts only after you enable the microphone; the audio is scored and discarded, never stored.
