Débat move 2: concede without surrendering

A débat where you concede nothing sounds stubborn; one where you concede everything is lost. The strategic concession grants exactly the fair part of the attack — named precisely — and keeps the core intact:

• Vous avez raison sur ce point : + the precise part you grant (never the whole). Sur les réseaux sociaux : Vous avez raison sur ce point : avant treize ans, un enfant ne mesure pas ce qu'il publie ni qui le lira. What is granted there is the youngest users, and only them — vous avez raison, il faut interdire les réseaux aux mineurs would have handed over the position itself.
• J'admets que... / Il faut reconnaître que... — formal concession verbs. Sur les réseaux sociaux : J'admets que les algorithmes de recommandation sont conçus pour retenir l'attention, et qu'un adolescent y résiste moins bien qu'un adulte.
• Cela dit,... — the turn back to your ground, with the reason the concession doesn't sink the position. Sur les réseaux sociaux : Cela dit, une interdiction ne protège personne : les adolescents contournent la vérification d'âge en trois clics, alors qu'une éducation aux médias les suit toute leur scolarité.

The test of a good concession: after it, your position should be stronger, because it has absorbed the objection. Face the examiner and use the move at least once per challenge.
