The initial four-axis assessment

You already live in French. The question is not "do you speak French?" — it is where is your effort best spent this month? The DELF B2 exam has four épreuves, and you will work all four: compréhension de l'oral (CO), production orale (PO), compréhension des écrits (CE), production écrite (PE). But not in the same dose, and not in a fixed order.

This assessment measures each axis with one representative task, scores it against B2, then ranks the four axes by ease of progress — how much readiness one unit of effort buys you:

• Quick win — small gap, low effort. Usually exam technique on an axis you are already strong in. These come first: marks banked early, momentum secured.
• Steady work — a real gap, ordinary effort. Scheduled in weekly blocks.
• Long game — a gap rooted in fossilization (for most immersed learners: the spoken production axis). It starts today, but as a short daily loop — it yields to daily contact, never to a weekend burst.

Two honesty notes. The listening items below use short written transcripts while the audio pipeline is being built — the questions are real B2 listening questions, the sound arrives with the listening pillar. And your spoken production score is now measured: the speaking stage asks you to record a read-aloud sentence and a short mini-monologue, scored by the speech runtime — the same engine that grades the P45 speaking exercises. No microphone available? The 0–4 self-assessment remains as a fallback, and that score is labelled self-assessed everywhere it appears.
