Débat move 1: defend your position

Rung 02 introduced the interaction format. This series drills the six débat moves one at a time, starting with the most basic: defending under attack without repeating yourself.

When the examiner pushes, the B1 reflex is to say the same thing louder. The B2 move has three parts:

• Reformulate the position in new words — Je maintiens que..., autrement dit... Sur l'uniforme : Je maintiens que l'uniforme réduit les inégalités visibles ; autrement dit, il empêche que la marque des baskets devienne le premier classement de la cour.
• Add something fresh: a new reason or a new example — La preuve, c'est que... Sur l'uniforme : La preuve, c'est que dans les collèges qui l'imposent, les conseillers d'éducation constatent nettement moins de conflits liés aux vêtements à la rentrée.
• Aim it at the exact challenge — answer their point, not the one you prepared. If the examiner objects that the uniform crushes personality, the rebuttal goes at that, and nothing else: L'uniforme uniformise la tenue, pas les idées ; c'est en classe et au théâtre que les élèves se distinguent, pas dans le choix d'un sweat.

State your position on the topic, let the examiner attack, and defend each challenge with the three-part move. If a rebuttal repeats your opening sentence word for word, it doesn't count — take it again.
