Sound drill: obligatory liaison

P45.pronunciation-drills.07 · Audience: guest, language-pro, it-ml · Prerequisites: Sound drill: the schwa (mute e)

Unité PO-09 · campagne 5 · les_amis, nous_avons.

Written French hides consonants that spoken French revives, and knowing when to revive them is not optional: some liaisons are compulsory, and skipping them sounds broken to a French ear. After les / des / nous / vous / ils, and between an article or pronoun and its word, the silent final consonant wakes up — les amis is spoken with a /z/ bridging the two words. Record the models and make each join audible.

Say: Les amis ont un enfant.

Say: Nous avons attendu deux heures.
